Vlade's Big Retirement Party in Serbia

Serbian legendary basketball player Vlade Divac would hold a party of farewell from active play in his home town on Sept. 22, with the participation of world top basketball players, local press reported on Thursday.

Magic Johnson, one of the best basketball players of all time, would attend the party in Divac's home town of Prijepolje, 300 kilometers southwest of the capital Belgrade, the Serbian daily Politika reported.

"This is a great event for Prijepolje, a spectacular event that will mark this year in Serbia. So many top basketball players have never gathered in one place and our task is to welcome them, as well as tens of thousands of visitors who are expected in Prijepolje," said Nedzad Turkovic, mayor of Prijepolje.

Divac, 39-year-old, is a retired Serbian professional basketball player who spent most of his career in the NBA. The 2.16-meter center was known for his deft passing skills. On July 14, 2005, Divac announced his retirement, ending his sixteen-year basketball career.

Given the limited hotel room availability in the region, the world's top basketball players will be accommodated in Belgrade from where they will get to Prijepolje in helicopters, according to the reports.
