Kosovo: Bomb a Church, Build a Park -- on Our Dime

16 July 2008 Djakovica The UN authorities in Kosovo have pledged to hold talks with council officials in Djakovica after it emerged a park is being built over the remains of a Serbian Orthodox Church.....

...The Serbian Orthodox church of the Holy Trinity in Djakovica was originally built before the Second World War but destroyed by the communists after 1945.

In the mid-1990s the church was rebuilt even though ethnic Serbs made up just two percent of Djakovica's population. After the UN and NATO took up the administration of Kosovo in 1999, the church was torched by ethnic Albanians and completely destroyed in the inter-ethnic riots of 2004.
