Zali Zare da zalimo

An old Serbian love song from the late 19th century from a town in Serbia called "Vranje", beautifully performed by the group Kulin Ban.

The song is about a young man, leaving his family and his beloved (Zare) to go off to become a freedom fighter (kumit) and battle the Ottoman Turks and their Albanian allies (the Arnauts). He knows that he will not likely return alive.

Translation (Courtesy of Mirjana Petrovic):

Be sad, Zare, we should both be sad for we are going to part
You will part from me and I from you, I will go far away.
I will go far away, far away to white Vranje
I will join kumits, I will be a young kumit.

Then I will take a royal sabre and all the royal weapons
and I will go all the way to Pcinja, all the way to Pcinja Presev-Kaza
I will cross the water of Vardar river, the huge Vardar river
I will fight those Turks, those Turk Arnauts.

Be sad, cry, we should both be sad when the Sun rises,
when the Sun rises, bethink it is from God,
you should know then that this is my, this is my white face
you should know then that this is my, this is my bright face.

When the wind starts blowing bethink it is from God,
then you say that this is my, this is my gentle soul.
When the dew is forming you bethink it is from God,
then you say that these are my, these are my small tears.

And the Other Shoe Drops: Albanian Terrorists Claim Repsonsibility For 9/14 Bomb Blast

BELGRADE -- An group calling itself the Army of the Republic of Kosovo has claimed responsibility for the bombing of the International Civilian Office (ICO) in Priština.

Three German nationals were arrested on November 14 over the incident, but will probably be released due to a lack of evidence.

The Albanian group sent a message via a personal e-mail account, threatening the Kosovo government, media and international organizations in the province.

“As long as the UN plan is in force, we will attack with full might and there will be no security for Serbs that live in Kosovo,” the organization stated in its e-mail, adding that severed Serb heads would be sent to Serbian politicians.

The organization also threatened to bomb EULEX headquarters as well if it remained neutral on Kosovo’s status, adding that there would be new conflicts not only in Kosovo but in other regions as well,” Kosovo Police Service spokesman Veton Elshani told B92.

SerbBlog: Big "surprise". Sort of blows the "secular Muslims" theory yet again, now doesn't it?.

What this means is that "the EULEX Mission excuse" just gave the Albanians the green light to seize even more territory and clear out the last of the Christian Serbs, while making Sejdiu and Thaci appear to have "clean hands". You could cut the hypocrisy here with a knife!

Billboard sparks controversy in Detroit. Is America Waking Up?

The non-profit group United American Committee has erected a controversial 48 ft. long billboard on Interstate 75 south of Detroit, MI with a statement in opposition to Islamic Sharia Law, a legal system that many believe is a growing threat to the U.S. Constitution.

DETROIT, MI (November 25th, 2008) -
The billboard, located just south of Luna Pier Rd. on the south bound side of the Detroit-Toledo Expressway, states “Sharia Law Threatens America”. Sharia Law is a legal system recognized in many Islamic countries such as the former Taliban regime of Afghanistan, and currently Saudi Arabia, and is a legal system which dictates beheadings, stonings, and other punishments for what are listed as crimes under Sharia such as homosexuality and adultery, and according to critics views women as inferior granting them little rights. Days after the billboard went up, emails from angry Muslim residents began coming in to the offices of the United American Committee, the organization behind the billboard. “Muslims are the biggest victims of Sharia Law in the world.” remarked Tom Trento, a spokesperson for the UAC. Trento continued “We hope this message inspires the Muslims of America who came to this country to escape Sharia, to stand up against it.”

If one goes to the website listed on the board they will find a video of Wafa Sultan, a Syrian Muslim who escaped from the middle-east and has become an outspoken critic of Sharia Law. “At times, it feels to me, that Sharia is following me to the United States” Sultan says in the video, referring to Islamic charities and organizations in America who have pushed for support for Sharia Law in parts of America. Sultan also points out that in Great Britain and France, Sharia Law is being enforced in various ways in certain communities. Most recently Great Britain has officially sanctioned the establishment of Sharia courts for civil matters among Muslims. “Our constitution is not compatible with Sharia” Sultan states, a view shared by many in America.

The United American Committee is a leading non-profit educational group dedicated to awakening the nation to the threats of radical Islam and works to educate Americans on the nature of Islamic extremism. Its mission is to fight the ideological aspects of the War on Terror to counter elements of radical Islam in America.

"Romancing the Sociopath", Vanity Fair's Profile on Ramush Haradinaj

If you are in the mood for a good vomit, Vanity Fair's December issue includes a glorified ode to Kosovo Albanian warlord, Ramush Hardinaj.

Among other issues that author, William Langewiesche, choses to ignore in his portrait of Haradinaj, is the fact that nine witnesses at the Haridinah trial at the Hague wound up dead before they could testify. And the editor of a prominent Kosovo Albanian newspaper editor faced contempt charges for releasing the Haradinaj witnesses' names and locations to the public. Otherwise, Ramush Haradinaj would be where he belongs, in a prison cell for a very long time.

Haridinaj sports all the trappings of an Albanian Don Michael Corleone in Langewiesche's portrait:

"Nor are they payoffs to a protection racket—a proto-taxation system that some say accompanies Haradinaj’s dominance in western Kosovo. Rather, they seem to be genuine gifts—of materials and labor as well as cash—offered by people who recognize his deeds, and also are sensitive to his power."

Yet, the "M word" (mafia) never once gets mentioned.

What Langewiesche claims to "see" -- must have been with a crystal ball, because it's apparent that Langewiesche never talked to a single Serb -- is what "Serbs would like to do to Hardinaj". According to Langewiesche :

"They would kill him if they could. They would shoot him in the head and throw his body into a ditch. They would wrap him in barbed wire and drag him to death behind a car. This is what they say he did to their people."

Really? And
Langewiesche claims to know "the inner thoughts" of Christian Serbs, how?

And Langewiesche poo-poos the suggestion that illegal organ trafficking of Serbs, could have taken place, with the following:

"Carla Del Ponte added to the vitriol by suggesting in her book that the K.L.A. killed prisoners in order to harvest their organs. No doubt some Serbs believe it. So what if none of the allegations could be proved in court—it just shows that the proceedings were biased."

Proven in court? The investigation just began five months ago! This allegation hasn't yet reached the inside of a courtroom. (However illegal organ transplants in Kosovo WERE recently discovered.) But never mind, Langewiesche has already judged it as "not true". His Haradinaj hero could never do such a thing!

Langewiesche is
just another blind Westerner, admiring "the tough ruggedness of the primitives" from his safe self-righteous perch, and defending Ramush Haradinaj as the new "Rambo".

I suppose that this is the wonderful thing about being an amoral author -- you can turn victimizers into victims, terrorists into "freedom fighters"and murderers into "heroes", with just the stroke of a pen. And in today's climate, there will be a significant portion of the public who read your nonsense (between the ads for the latest fashion news) and actually believe you.

The Plot Thickens on the Kosovo Bomb Blast

MV Pejakovich

A few days ago, arrests were finally made in connection with the November 14th bomb blast at International Civilian Office led by the European Union’s special representative to Kosovo. And the men that the Kosovo police arrested are reported as "three German citizens"

If your reaction was anything like mine, it was, "What? Germans? You've got to be kidding me!" Germany was one of the first countries to recognize Kosovo Albanian independence. Germany is one of the Kosovo Albanians' biggest donors of financial aid. Why would Germans be bombing an EU Mission Headquarters? That makes no sense. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop -- like when the headlines died down, maybe we'd discover (if we looked hard enough) that these three would turn out to be ethnic Albanian German citizens, but......

Nope. They are real German Germans. Der Spiegel and several other German papers are reporting that the three Germans arrested are actually members of the BND, German Security Service, but the German Government refuses to officially confirm or deny that. (Which means we can bet that it's true.)

OK. That's even more puzzling. Why would German BND agents blow up an EU office, with no one in it? Makes absolutely no sense. Wouldn't it make far more sense that one of the thousands of Kosovo Albanians who've been protesting the "EU Mission's 6 Point Plan for Kosovo" in recent weeks would be the bomber?

The three Germans say that they heard about the bomb blast and showed up to investigate it, nothing more. They say that they had absolutely nothing to do with the actual bombing.

But the Albanians say they have video, and the German government says "you can't see the faces. This is a frame up!"

Well, the Kosovo Albanians are sticking to their "three German did it" charade, and are hanging on to their "three German bombing suspects" for the next 30 days. And as you might imagine, the embarrassed German government is absolutely furious. When German officials start using words like "this is absurd", you know that their ears are blowing steam.

Wish that I could say that I feel sorry for the German Government in this case, but I don't. This is hardly the first time that Kosovo Albanians have bitten the hand that feeds them, it is quite unlikely that it will be the last!

....Mr. Vujnovich, a Pittsburgh boy who became head of the Office of Strategic Services in Bari, Italy, organized what has been called the greatest air rescue of the war.

In the summer of 1944, U.S. bombers targeted the Romanian oil fields in Ploesti that supplied the German war machine. They flew from Italy and across Yugoslavia to get there.

But Luftwaffe fighters and flak from anti-aircraft guns took a fearsome toll, and many shot-up planes never made it back.

Some 1,500 crewmen had to bail out over Serbia, trapped behind enemy lines and dependent on villagers to hide them from the Germans.

Mr. Vujnovich's team of agents, including a former Pittsburgh Steeler from Johnstown and a crack radioman from Toledo, Ohio, worked with Yugoslav guerilla leader Gen. Draza Mihailovich to airlift 512 men from a makeshift runway carved on a mountaintop.......Pittsburgh Post Gazette

A Lesson from Kosovars & Palestinians for Atlasians

By Gerald A. Honigman

......Well, please take a look--like many of us have over the decades--at the answer through the oft-quoted words of a spokesman for that above national group itself, PLO executive committee member Zuheir Mohsen, on March 31, 1977, in the Dutch newspaper Trouw.

"The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese... Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct 'Palestinian people' to oppose Zionism....".

... The answer, however, regarding Albanians in Serbia is…You follow Zuheir Mohsen's advice.

But instead of renaming yourselves “Palestinians,” you, of course, call yourselves Kosovars. And then get assorted Jihadis from the rest of the Arab/Muslim World to assist you--along with America and NATO.

Americans Vote for Recognition of the Armenian Genocide!

MSNBC is currently conducting a vote on whether the US should recognize the Armenian Genocide by Turks circa 1915 -- and rather unbelievably, the vote at this point is nearly 80% "No". How and why the vote is tilted this way is completely beyond me.

Virtually no one in the West doubts that Turkey committed genocide against Armenians in 1915, and later Greeks and Assyrians -- virtually all the Christians on its territory. Millions of Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians died for no other reason than they weren't Muslim Turks. Historical documents all support it, including relays from the American Ambassador at the time. Yet, Turkey keeps on thinking that if this horrific crime doesn't get mentioned, it will go away. It won't.

Any doubts, then all you have to do is see Elia Kazan's classic film America, America based on the experiences of Kazan's own family escape from Turkey.

Balkan Insight: "Blast at EU Special Representative’s Office in Kosovo"

By Krenar Gashi in Pristina

Kosovo Police sources told Balkan Insight that the blast was caused by an object which was "heavier than a hand grenade."

Veton Elshani, Kosovo Police spokesperson, confirmed this information.

"Nobody was hurt but the windows of the building were broken," Elshani told Balkan Insight.

The building is the headquarters of the International Civilian Office, the ICO, a body that is supervising Kosovo's independence.

The head of the ICO, Peter Feith, is also the EU Special Representative in Kosovo.... Read the Rest at Balkan Insight

SerbBlog: Good laugh -- both Feith and Sejdiu deny that this bomb blast has ANYTHING to do with the fact that the Kosovo Albanians are protesting the planned Eulex Mission. Yet if they have "no suspects" & "no motive", then how can they possibly know what was or wasn't the bomber's motive? And, Sejiu goes on to say that “Only enemies of Kosovo can link these two things (protesting Eulex and this bomb blast)”. Then does that make any reasonable person using their brain into "an enemy of Kosovo"? According to Sejdiu, "Yes!" Thanks so much for clarifying that for us, Mr. Sejdiu!

Ohio National Guard Has Fans in Belgrade

By Jim Garamone
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Nov. 14, 2008 – Hanging from the walls of restaurants in Belgrade, Serbia, are the flags of the state of Ohio. Other restaurants advertise when they will re-broadcast the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns football games.

As you walk through the streets, you see children wearing red-and-white Ohio State sweatshirts.

What’s up with this? Since when did Ohio become so important in Serbia?

The answer lies with the military. The Ohio National Guard is the state partner of the Serbian military. The military-to-military contacts between the two organizations have blossomed into a cultural phenomenon in Serbia.

“We are very lucky to get Ohio as a state partner,” said Serbian Army Col. Milan Mojsilovic, deputy commander of Serbia’s Joint Command. Mojsilovic briefed staff and reporters traveling with Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, the U.S. chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who visited Serbia last month.

The Serbia-Ohio military-to-military relationship began in September 2006. “The relationship between Serbia and Ohio is very close,” Mojsilovic said through an interpreter. “Maybe it is because soldiers everywhere speak the same language.”

The Ohioans work on activities that help to professionalize the Serbian military. Serbian soldiers have traveled to Ohio, and Ohio soldiers and airmen have worked in Serbia. The Buckeye State servicemembers and Serbs have worked together on peacekeeping exercises, unit level exchanges, staff development, setting up an NCO academy and military planning assistance. The whole program in fiscal 2008 cost roughly $400,000, said Air Force Capt. Matt Zelnick, a member of the Ohio Air National Guard and coordinator of the program.

“We work with U.S. Army Europe and U.S. Air Forces in Europe in setting up the exercises,” said Zelnick, who also served six months in the U.S. embassy in Belgrade as the on-site coordinator. “We work humanitarian exercises and some regional exercises as well.”

The servicemembers do not get into politics, Zelnick said. “We are able to relate to the Serbs on a military level without getting involved in the whole Kosovo question,” he said.

That may be part of the attraction of the Ohio Guard to the Serbs, a U.S. embassy official said. The Serbs are able to separate the Ohio personnel from U.S. policy on Kosovo – America was one of the first nations to recognize Kosovo’s independence in February, though the Serbian government still considers Kosovo to be one of the country’s provinces.

Some 26 events featured Ohio Guard and Serbian interaction over the past year, and that number will grow in 2009, Zelnick said. The events run the gamut from military doctrine development to unit exchanges to peacekeeping logistics.

“We want to expand cooperation in NCO education and training,” Mojsilovic said. “We also want to expand joint exercises of units and development of joint security programs.”

Other things -- such as troop exchanges, seminars and educational opportunities -- also are important to the burgeoning military relationship, he said.

The Guard participates in 56 other partnership programs. For example, the New York Guard has a partnership with the South African military, and the Oregon Guard works with Bangladesh.

“These are designed to facilitate long-term cooperation between the United States and partner countries,” said Air Force Col. Cathy Rodriguez, director of the international affairs division at the National Guard Bureau. “Guardsmen certainly stay with units longer than active duty personnel, so it was a good fit.”

The program began in the early 1990s after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The Guard helped the newly independent states and former members of the Warsaw Pact figure out the correct way that militaries act in democracies. The program continued and has expanded to Asia, Africa and South America.

“[The Ohio National Guard is] really just entering our third full year of the program,” Zelnick said. “We are looking forward to building on some of the events we’ve held in the past.”

Serbia's Surprising Turn Westward

David H. Young | 13 Nov 2008
World Politics Review

Only eight months after losing Kosovo, their cultural and historical heartland, Serbs seem strangely passive these days. At this time last year, as negotiations over Kosovo's final status reached an impasse, Serbs felt bitter and humiliated by the pariah-status they were dealt by the international community. So their initial reaction to Kosovo's declaration of independence -- and its quick recognition by Western capitals -- this past February was predictable: amidst a crowd of 100,000 peaceful protesters (more than 1% of the population), a few hundred "extremists" attacked and ignited several embassies of Kosovo-friendly governments, including that of Kosovo's strongest ally, the United States.

But instead of closing ranks and leaning to the right, as often happens among humiliated populations, the Serbian public did just the opposite.....World Politics Review

Kosovo: Ethnic Albanians reject UN plan

Pristina/New York, 11 Nov. (AKI) – The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday postponed a session on Kosovo, after Kosovar leaders in the capital Pristina rejected a plan proposed by the Secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon. Ban's plan was related to the deployment of the European Union mission in the former Serbian province.

Serbia is opposed to Kosovo's independence and has resisted moves to replace the current UN mission (UNMIK) with the EU mission (EULEX).

But after weeks of secret negotiations, Serbia’s pro-European president Boris Tadic accepted Ban’s plan, regulating, customs, border control, police and the judiciary, provided the mission took a neutral stand on independence based on Security Council resolution 1244.

The resolution, adopted after Serbian forces pulled out of the former province in 1999 and Kosovo was placed under UN control, still officially treats Kosovo as a part of Serbia.

But after a meeting with western diplomats in Pristina on Monday, ethnic Albanian leaders rejected Ban’s proposal, saying it infringed on Kosovo’s independence status.

The UN Security Council was first scheduled to meet on Friday to put a stamp on Ban’s proposal, but was moved to Tuesday and postponed again.

Kosovo president Fatmir Seidiu told the media that Ban’s plan represented “interference in the internal structure of Kosovo”. The deployment of EULEX in Kosovo was acceptable only based on the independence plan forged by former president of Finland Martti Ahtisaari.

Ahtisaari’s plan called for “internationally supervised independence, but was blocked in the Security Council by Serbia’s ally Russia.

“We are for a dialogue which would facilitate EULEX deployment in Kosovo, respecting the plan of Martti Ahtisaari, Kosovo's constitution and laws,” Seidiu said.

Meanwhile, representatives of Kosovo's minority Serbs on Tuesday presented officials in Belgrade a petition signed by 70,000 people, who oppose EULEX deployment saying its main goal was the implementation of independence.

Serbia: Church leaders reject patriarch's request for retirement

Belgrade, 12 Nov. (AKI) - The leaders of the Serbian Orthodox Church have rejected a request by the church's Patriarch Pavle to retire because of his advanced age and illness. The issue has been the subject of recent speculation on the possible political motives behind the move, church officials and analysts said on Wednesday.

The Holy Sabor (Assembly), comprising 45 bishops worldwide, discussed the patriarch’s request at a meeting in the capital Belgrade on Tuesday, but decided that the 94 year-old Pavle (Photo) should remain the spiritual leader for life.

The Sabor, which continued the session on Wednesday, made no official statement, but church officials who asked not to be identified, confirmed that the request was rejected.

The patriarch, who was elected for life 18 years ago, and has been hospitalised for the past year, asked to be relieved of his duties last month. But the Serbian media has questioned whether he was the author of the request and whether there is an ongoing struggle among his potential successors.

Montenegro's Archbishop Amfilohije and his Kosovo colleague Artemije have been mentioned as Pavle's potential successors. Both are strong opponents of Kosovo's independence.

But Serbian media said on Wednesday that 41 year-old Bosnian Archbishop Grigorije has gained strong support among bishops who insist on church reforms and closer ties with the West.

Grigorije is a close friend of Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik who, in turn, is a close ally of Serbian president Boris Tadic.

Serbian media has speculated that Tadic was keen to eliminate 'hardliners' from the church leadership, as the only authoritative opposition to his policies and install Grigorije at the Church helm.

“It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Tadic himself was behind the move to replace patriarch Pavle and to install his own man,” said analyst Dragan Milosavljevic, who is familiar with church affairs in an interview with Adnkronos International (AKI).

“He practically controls everything, so why not the church too,” Milosavljevic said.

But the Holy Sabor seemed to have prevented such a move, by deciding to keep Pavle in place and at the same time expanding powers of Pavle’s first deputy Amfilohije.

“Since the patriarch’s alleged resignation has sparked a vivid debate in the church and the public, occasionally unpleasant, the Sabor decision represents a way out from this situation,” said another church analyst Zivica Tucic.

B92: "Three Hundred (Kosovo Serb) Hostages Had Organs Removed"

6 November 2008 | 11:44 | Source: FoNet, Nedeljni telegraf BELGRADE --
Around 300 kidnapped Serbs, Roma and non-Albanians from Kosovo perished in northern Albania, before their organs were sold on, says the War Crimes Prosecution.

Bruno Vekarić (FoNet, archive)
Bruno Vekarić (FoNet, archive)

Prosecution spokesman Bruno Vekarić told weekly Nedeljni Telegraf that it had been revealed that a human body could be sold on the black market for EUR 2mn, that kidneys fetched between EUR 15,000 and 100,000, while prices for a liver or heart could reach as much as EUR 1mn.

“It’s awful that I should have to say something like that, but we’re looking at a lucrative business that outdoes drug trafficking in terms of profit,” he said.

According to the prosecution, illegal operations were performed in Building 320, 20km from the “yellow house” mentioned by former Hague Chief Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte.

“Building 320 is a neuro-psychiatric clinic. We believe that surgical operations were carried out there on civilians, as the conditions existed for such a thing. There was a prisoner camp there, as well as a KLA camp,” said the spokesman.

He said that prisoners were prepared for operations inside the “yellow house”, but removed from there whenever international humanitarian missions like the Red Cross came by.

A large quantity of medical equipment was discovered inside, and certain reports contain detailed inventories of what was discovered.

“It differs markedly from what the Albanian prosecutor has been saying, who shut the case back in 2005,” said Vekarić.

B92: Arrested Doctor Linked to Organ Harvesting of Serb Prisoners

BELGRADE -- Lufti Dervishi, a urologist from Kosovo, has been arrested on suspicion of performing illegal kidney transplants, daily Blic writes.

One witness in the investigation into the trafficking of organs of Serb prisoners from Kosovo in 1998, mentioned the doctor’s name in regards to the case, according to Blic.

“The witness told Serbian war crimes prosecutors that he saw Doctor Ljutvi Dervishi at locations where it was suspected that organs had been extracted from civilian prisoners and sold later,” Blic’s source stated.

“He was now arrested with a scalpel in his hand, and it's obvious that they have continued doing what they started doing to prisoners in 1998,” the source said.

The clinic was found after the Kosovo police questioned a Turkish citizen who aroused their suspicion because he said that he had come to Kosovo for medical treatment.

“He came on October 31 to Kosovo with a letter from his doctor stating that he would be treated for heart problems in Kosovo. A routine check at the airport confirmed that he had no money, which aroused police suspicions. He only had that doctor’s note and he looked suspicious. The police were waiting for him at the airport two days ago as he was heading home,” Kosovo Police Service (KPS) officials said.

The KPS added that the suspect was “visibly tired” when he arrived at the airport to catch a flight back to Istanbul.

The suspect was arrested, after which a doctor confirmed that he had had a kidney removed.

KPS spokesman Veton Elshani said that “the MEDICUS clinic is not registered for surgical operations but only for standard urological check-ups.”

Drugs were found at the clinic that had passed their use-by date, along with blood in plastic bags bearing no kind of identification. According to reports in Priština, several other people have also been arrested in the operation.

Elshani did not want to comment on the Blic story that Dervishi was tied to the trafficking of organs from kidnapped Serbs in Kosovo, but said that international officials were involved in the investigation and that they would check all leads.

The Serbian war crimes prosecution has uncovered a neuropsychiatric hospital in Burrel in Albania where Kosovo Liberation Army doctors extracted organs from kidnapped Serbs, Roma and Albanians for re-sale between 1998 and March 2001.

B92: "Bottles thrown at Serbs visiting cemeteries in Kosovo"

The cemetery in Priština (Beta)

The Kosovo Serbs forced out of Dečani, Đakovica and Peć also went to the graveyards in these Metohija towns, to mark the Orthodox Christian holiday of Zadušnice (All Souls' Day).

In addition to desecrated tombstones, reports say that local Albanians subjected the Serbs to verbal threats and provocation, that included bottles thrown at them.

Those who visited the Orthodox cemetery in southern Kosovska Mitrovica also found that some 80 percent of the graves there were vandalized, but there were no incidents.

KFOR provided escort in Priština, while Kosovo police was protecting the Serbs in Kosovska Mitrovica.

WIP: "Mother Serbia and Her Children"

(Excerpt)

For the last ten years or so, the Serbs have been in danger of disappearing - yes, that's right, completely and utterly - a decrease in numbers of Serbs has been blamed on "new trends coming from the west", such as contraception and "women who pursue carrier instead of trying to conceive", together with "more and more gay people popping up all the time because of the latest fashion."

Campaigns launched to try and help with this matter, both governmental or private, didn't appear to be working - it seemed as if the Serbs just refused to mate and multiply! There was Patriarch calling for women to multiply, there were TV shows titled "It's time for babies!", even the latest agreement between ruling coalition partners includes the paragraph that says they will try to help increase the number of Serbs, not to mention various other subliminal messages in the press and TV and so on. But nothing helped.
