Serbian television reporter Vladimir Jelic tours America to find four cities named "Belgrade" in the US -- in Montana, Nebraska, Minnesota and Maine -- and to track their history for Serbian TV. Boston Globe reporter James F. Smith meets up with them on Belgrade Avenue in Boston.
Other than some Classical Greek city names in America, "Belgrade" is the only major city in Eastern Europe to also have American cities named in its honor.
There is, however, at least one slight inaccuracy in the Boston Globe reporting -- Montana's Belgrade was named in honor of "Serbian investors" who financed that leg of the Northern Pacific Railroad, not just in honor of "Serbian workers".
